UWE International Camp 2025: A Journey of Learning, Culture, and Sustainability

UWE International Camp 2025: A Journey of Learning, Culture, and Sustainability

In a world increasingly shaped by global challenges and interconnected communities, the UWE International Camp 2025 emerged as a vibrant platform for young minds to explore the intersection of education, culture, and sustainability. Hosted by Burapha University International College in collaboration with the University of the West of England, the camp brought together students from Thailand and the UK for a week of immersive learning and cultural exchange. Beyond developing business, finance, accounting, and logistics skills, the camp emphasised the importance of sustainable development through hands-on experiences—such as visiting the Crab Bank in Angsila, where students actively participated in marine conservation by releasing baby crabs and squids into the ocean. These moments deepened their understanding of resource preservation. They highlighted the power of international partnerships in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in education, responsible consumption, and life below water.

Objectives:

To Enhance Academic and Professional Skills in Global Contexts, equip students with practical knowledge and interdisciplinary skills in business, finance, accounting, logistics, and sustainability through collaborative learning and real-world applications.

To Promote Cross-Cultural Understanding and Global Citizenship, Foster mutual respect and cultural appreciation between Thai and UK students through immersive experiences in language, arts, traditions, and local lifestyles, encouraging global awareness and empathy.

To Inspire Action Toward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Engage students in hands-on sustainability initiatives—such as marine conservation at the Angsila Crab Bank—to deepen their understanding of responsible resource use and empower them to contribute to SDGs, especially SDGs 4, 12, 14, and 17.

Program Activities:

The UWE International Summer Camp 2025 was thoughtfully designed to blend academic enrichment with cultural immersion and sustainability. Throughout the week, students engaged in knowledge-sharing sessions, where they brainstormed ideas and exchanged perspectives on global business practices, financial literacy, logistics, and sustainable development. These interactive discussions encouraged critical thinking and collaboration across cultures. To deepen their understanding, the camp included site visits, such as the inspiring trip to the Crab Bank in Angsila, where students learned about marine conservation and actively participated in releasing baby crabs and squids into the ocean. These hands-on experiences brought sustainability concepts to life. Additionally, cultural visits—including temple tours and a journey to Koh Sichang—offered students a glimpse into Thai traditions, spirituality, and coastal living. These activities created a dynamic learning environment that empowered students to become globally minded and environmentally conscious citizens.

Expected Outcomes (Impacts):

Integration of Sustainability into Education (SDG 4 – Quality Education) The camp provided experiential learning opportunities emphasising sustainability, global citizenship, and interdisciplinary thinking. Students gained knowledge in business and logistics, and how these fields intersect with environmental responsibility. Promotion of Responsible Resource Use (SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production) Through brainstorming sessions and idea-sharing, students explored using natural resources more efficiently and ethically.

These discussions encouraged future leaders to consider sustainability in their professional decisions—support for Marine Conservation (SDG 14 – Life Below Water). The visit to the Crab Bank in Angsila and the release of baby crabs and squids into the ocean directly supported marine biodiversity. These activities raised awareness about ocean ecosystems and the importance of community-led conservation. Strengthening Global Partnerships for Sustainability (SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals). The collaboration between Burapha University and the University of the West of England exemplified international cooperation in education and sustainability. It demonstrated how cross-border partnerships can advance shared goals and foster mutual understanding. UWE International Camp 2025: A Journey of Learning, Culture, and Sustainability. In a world where sustainability is no longer a choice but a necessity, students from the University of the West of England (UWE) and Burapha University International College came together from June 14 to 21 to explore how education can drive real-world impact.

The UWE International Summer Camp 2025 was more than just an academic exchange—it was a journey into the heart of sustainable development. With a curriculum rooted in business, finance, accounting, logistics, and sustainability, the camp encouraged students to think critically about how resources are used and how they can be preserved for future generations. Through workshops and collaborative discussions, students shared ideas on sustainable resource management, aligning their learning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One of the most memorable moments of the camp was a visit to the Crab Bank in Angsila Chonburi, a local initiative dedicated to marine conservation. Here, students witnessed firsthand how community-led efforts can protect ocean life. They learned about crabs and squids’ lifecycle and the importance of releasing juveniles into the sea to maintain ecological balance. With sleeves rolled up and hearts full of purpose, students joined local volunteers in releasing baby crabs and squids into the ocean—a symbolic act of hope and responsibility. For many, it was a powerful reminder that sustainability begins with small, intentional actions.

The camp also included sessions on green logistics, ethical finance, and sustainable business models, giving students tools to become future leaders in responsible industries. Combining academic rigour with hands-on experiences, the UWE International Summer Camp 2025 proved that education can catalyse change. As the camp concluded, students returned home with new knowledge and a renewed commitment to sustainability. The seeds of change had been planted—now it’s up to them to help it grow.
