The 1st Green Office Capacity Building Program: Policy Formulation, Communication, and Resource & Energy Management

The “Personnel Development Training Project on Green Office Implementation Guidelines No.1 (Policy Formulation, Communication, and Resource and Energy Management)” was organized to support the environmental and sustainability policies of the International College in alignment with the Green University framework and Green Office standards of Burapha University. Achieving these standards requires building knowledge, understanding, and active participation among staff members in key areas, including environmental policy formulation, communication and environmental awareness within the organization, as well as efficient resource and energy management. This training program marked the initial phase of the Green Office implementation process, focusing on providing knowledge regarding Green Office evaluation criteria and the operation of three key categories: (1) policy formulation and planning, (2) communication and awareness building, and (3) resource and energy management. These areas serve as fundamental components for systematically developing the organization into a sustainable Green Office. In addition, the project aimed to prepare personnel to apply the acquired knowledge to their daily work practices and to provide preliminary information for the development of a Green Office Road Map to support future Green Office assessments at various levels. Ultimately, the initiative contributes to the development of the International College as an efficient and environmentally friendly organization that aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The objectives of the project were to enhance personnel’s knowledge and understanding of Green Office evaluation criteria and implementation guidelines, particularly in the three main categories of policy, communication, and resource and energy management. The project also aimed to encourage participation and strengthen environmental awareness among staff members within the organization. Furthermore, it emphasized practical learning and the analysis of efficient resource and energy utilization, while preparing baseline information for the development of the International College’s Green Office Road Map in the future.

The implementation process began with the appointment of a Green Office committee within the International College to assign responsibilities for each evaluation category and establish a systematic environmental management mechanism within the organization. Subsequently, planning meetings were conducted to determine policies, goals, and implementation strategies for driving the Green Office initiative in accordance with Green Office evaluation criteria and the Green University policy of Burapha University. The project included training sessions to provide personnel with knowledge and understanding of Green Office principles and assessment guidelines, focusing on major topics such as Green Office evaluation criteria, policy and planning, communication and awareness building, and resource and energy management. These activities aimed to ensure that staff members could effectively apply the acquired knowledge and practices in their actual work environments.

In addition, workshop activities were organized to engage personnel in surveying areas within the college, analyzing resource and energy consumption in different locations, and jointly proposing methods to reduce energy and resource usage within the office. Examples included reducing paper consumption, turning off lights and air conditioners when not in use, waste separation, and organizing environmentally friendly workspaces. These activities encouraged staff participation in driving the organization toward becoming a Green Office in a tangible and practical manner. Following the completion of the project, data collection and evaluation were conducted through satisfaction surveys, activity summaries, and project reports. Supporting evidence, including photographs, participant lists, public relations materials, and environmental practice guidelines, was also compiled for future reference. These documents will be used to support the development of the Green Office Road Map and to prepare for future Green Office assessments, while also contributing to the university’s Green University indicators (KPI C30.1) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As a result of the project, personnel of the International College gained greater knowledge and understanding of Green Office principles and implementation practices. Staff members became more aware of the importance of efficient resource and energy utilization and actively participated in driving the organization toward becoming a Green Office. The knowledge gained from the training could be applied in daily work practices, such as reducing paper usage, conserving electrical energy, and properly separating waste within the office. Furthermore, the college obtained baseline information and recommendations from the workshop activities, which will be utilized in planning and developing the Green Office Road Map for future Green Office assessments. The project also significantly supports the implementation of the Green University policy and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of Burapha University.
