BUUIC Pride month 2025

BUUIC Pride month 2025

          Pride month is normally held in June. The event is created to celebrate LGBTQ+ diversity and inclusion. Importantly, pride month is seen as cultural festival that drives economic growth. The project aimed at promoting and raising people awareness about gender equality, fundamental human right and gender diversity (LGBTQ+). Thus, International College, Burapha University and University of the West of England would like to get involved in gender awareness raising. Consequently, students, staffs and stakeholders would understand more about gender diversity in higher education. The universities are seen as the powerful agents for educating and promoting gender equality and diversity. In order to promote gender diversity and pride month, International College, Burapha University and University of the West of England created short clip video. Video clip is used to communicate with students and academic staffs. Furthermore, BUUIC pride month activity is arranged to celebrate same-sex marriage in Thailand. Thailand is the first Southeast Asia country to legalize same sex-marriage. Moreover, BUUIC pride month may be considered as soft power. So, it can attract tourism into country as LGBTQ+ country and people will perceive Thailand as a safe and inclusive destination. According to research, countries with greater LGBTQ+ inclusion are likely to have higher economic output because LGBTQ people are allowed to show their talent and potential. As a consequence, the rainbow people are expected to boost up economic growth of country.

The following are the main objectives of this project;

  1. To raise awareness, change people view ,and encourage actions that foster equality and respect for LGBTIQ+ individuals.
  2. To reduce LGBTQ+ discrimination in higher education

          BUUIC Pride was planned at beginning of June. June is globally recognized as LGBTQ+ pride month. Hence, Associate Dean for International Affairs and Global Relation discussed this matter with our University of the West of England who is our strategic partner. BUUIC and University of the West of England saw this opportunity to raise and promote gender diversity and human right for LGBTQ+ community . So, we both decided to create video clip to promote human right and equality for LGBTQ+ people. A video clip is a powerful tool to communicate a substantive message because nowadays, people pay significantly more attention to video clip. For this reason, the messages tend to be perceived by our target audience. After making a decision, we contacted Representative of University of the West of England via email. In the email, we asked them a favor to create video clip about London pride month. More importantly, our partner can also share the perception of British people towards gender diversity. Our partner can freely create and design the content. On June 20 2025, UWE video clip was filmed at BUUIC by our IT staff. In regards to BUUIC video clip, Assistant professor Titiyoot Nuengchamnong was responsible for being a spokesperson. In the video, the term of pride month was demonstrated and then the purpose of creating pride month was mentioned in the clip. Furthermore, he also explained how International College, Burapha University celebrated and supported pride month, LGBTQ+ students and staffs. The video clip was filmed at BUUIC. After the video was made. We launched the first video on June 28th 2025 because the uprising at the Stonewall Inn began on June 28, 1969. and the last video was launched on June 30th 2025. Both video clips were posted on International College, Burapha University website.

SDG 5 Gender Equality (Indicator 5.6.2) Non-discrimination policies for transgender

SDG 10 Reduced Inequalities(Indicator 10.6.2) Measure and track applications and admissions of underrepresented (low income students, non-traditional students, women, LGBT students, disabled students)

The video clips highlighted the importance of gender equality and diversity in higher education. Additionally, it also describes importance of respecting LGBTQ+ right, University should have appropriate dress code policies. Policy normally separates students by gender. For instance, women should wear skirt and dresses. To avoid gender stereotypes, University dress codes should support the LGBTQ+ community. People should be allowed to wear whatever they want as long as it is appropriate. Dress codes with more flexibility can support gender diversity whether we’re gay, queer, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. More importantly, LGBTQ+ should be treated equally and have fundamental rights as straight people with no exceptions. For example, same sex marriage should be legalized. Hopefully, the video clips can uphold the rights of LGBTQ+ people in Thai society.
