On 20 June 2026, the Technology Clinic under the Research and Innovation Administration Division of Burapha University organized the project “Enhancing Safe Makpid Production toward GAP Certification to Improve Product Quality and Consumer Confidence” under the Building Community Enterprise (BCE) platform, one of the implementation mechanisms of the Innovation and Community Platform (ICP). The project was conducted at the Khon Chanthabun Coffee Council Community Enterprise in Chanthaburi Province.
The initiative aims to strengthen farmers’ knowledge and practical skills in producing Makpid in accordance with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) standards. By promoting safe agricultural production, the project seeks to improve product quality, enhance consumer confidence, and increase market opportunities for community agricultural products.
As part of the project, a team of experts conducted on-site assessments of five model Makpid orchards to prepare farmers for GAP certification. The experts provided technical guidance on farm management, production record keeping, input management, and quality control to ensure that farming practices comply with GAP requirements and enable farmers to improve production efficiency and long-term market competitiveness.
The field assessment was carried out with the participation of specialists from Burapha University and government agencies, including Assistant Professor Dr. Paitoon Kaewhom, Assistant to the President for Technology Transfer and Social Engagement; Associate Professor Dr. Chanakan Laksana and Assistant Professor Dr. Orasurang Sophipan, lecturers from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Burapha University (Sa Kaeo Campus); together with agricultural experts from the Chanthaburi Provincial Agricultural Office and the Office of Agricultural Research and Development Region 6. Their collaborative efforts provided farmers with practical recommendations for achieving GAP certification and improving production standards.
This initiative demonstrates the strong collaboration among Burapha University, government agencies, and local farming communities in strengthening community-based agriculture through knowledge transfer, technology, and innovation. By enhancing the production standards of Makpid, the project helps increase the value of local agricultural products, improves farmers’ competitiveness, and contributes to sustainable community economic development.
The project contributes to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It supports SDG 2: Zero Hunger by promoting safe and sustainable agricultural production systems; SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by improving farmers’ productivity and market opportunities; SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production through the adoption of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP); and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by fostering collaboration among universities, government agencies, and local communities to strengthen sustainable agricultural development and improve the quality of community agricultural products.
