Recognising the importance of sustainable development and the vital role of higher education institutions in environmental leadership, the Faculty of Education, Burapha University, has launched the Green Edu Project for the 2026 fiscal year. This initiative aligns with the University’s vision of becoming a Green University by fostering a sustainable environment for learning, research, and daily life. The project aims to cultivate environmental awareness and green practices among staff and students, encouraging efficient resource use and reducing environmental impacts. In line with the Faculty’s annual action plan on sustainable social development, the project supports institutional sustainability through activities such as the “Plant the Future” tree-planting campaign around the new building complex. Ultimately, the initiative seeks to expand green spaces, strengthen environmental responsibility, and advance the Faculty of Education towards sustainable excellence in accordance with Green Office and Green University principles.
The aims:
1. To promote environmental conservation awareness and foster green behavior among staff members within the Faculty of Education.
2. To increase green spaces and improve the exterior landscape of the buildings in accordance with the Green Office/Green University guidelines.
3. To create staff participation in environmental care and develop an environment conducive to sustainable learning and work.
4. To disseminate information about tree planting activities, as outlined in the new building layout (Plant the Future), in English on the websites sustainability.buu.ac.th or sdgs.buu.ac.th
Staff members of the Faculty of Education attended a lecture on the proper methods of planting Orchid Trees (*Bauhinia purpurea*) and Mexican Petunia, followed by a hands-on tree-planting activity around the Faculty buildings. The Orchid Tree was selected as it is the official tree of the Faculty of Education, while Mexican Petunia were planted for their aesthetic value and auspicious significance. A total of 60 participants took part in the activity. Overall satisfaction with the programme was rated at the highest level (x̄ = 4.69, S.D. = 0.60). Participants also suggested that similar activities should be organised in the future, with a focus on indoor planting initiatives.
The impacts:
1. The Faculty of Education serves as a model of a green organisation within Burapha University.
2. The Faculty of Education provides an environmentally friendly setting that enhances well-being and quality of life.
3. Staff members of the Faculty of Education actively participated in planting trees and flowers around the Faculty buildings, fostering a spirit of unity, cooperation, and shared commitment to environmental stewardship.
