The Department of Thai Language, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, offers the Bachelor of Arts Program in Thai Language (Revised Curriculum B.E. 2564 / 2021). The program aims to produce graduates equipped with knowledge and skills aligned with the needs of the contemporary labour market. Communication skills, in particular, are essential for both everyday life and professional work in a globalised society.
As part of the curriculum, the course 22849164: Professional Experience Training is required for third-year students during the summer semester. The course provides students with opportunities to apply their Thai language knowledge in real workplace settings at certified organisations for at least 210 hours. Students are also expected to present the outcomes of their internship experiences effectively.
However, English communication skills are increasingly essential in both the public and private sectors. Recognising this need, the department has organised a workshop to develop communicative English and soft skills. Delivered by an expert speaker, the training aims to strengthen students’ confidence, professional personality, and leadership potential. The program also emphasises gender equality in the workplace, particularly empowering female students. Learning how to communicate effectively and conduct themselves in international organisational cultures helps reduce gender gaps and create equal career opportunities.
This project, therefore, aims to prepare students before entering their professional internships while contributing to the Faculty’s mission in a tangible and meaningful way.
Project Coordinator:Dr. Yanisa Sabua and Lecturer Kanrapee Somchit
Objectives:
- To develop practical English communication skills relevant to internships and future careers, such as workplace conversations and professional presentations.
- To enhance soft skills necessary for effective collaboration and professional life.
- To foster positive attitudes and continuous motivation for learning English by helping students recognise its importance in real-life and professional contexts.
- To empower female students by building confidence in using English for negotiation, expressing opinions, and demonstrating leadership in the workplace, thereby promoting professional equality.
- To support the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in achieving its institutional mission.
Program Activities:
This project was conducted as a workshop titled “The Art of English Communication (Soft Skills) for Everyday Life and Career Preparation: Soft Skills and English—Keys to Women’s Success in the Digital Workplace.”
The primary objective was to develop practical English communication skills and soft skills among second-year Thai Language students in preparation for their upcoming professional internships.
The workshop emphasised experiential learning through knowledge sharing from an expert speaker, Dr Wilasinee Siriboonpipatana from Mintel Co., Ltd. The training covered workplace conversations, presentation techniques, and confidence-building strategies. Special attention was given to encouraging female students to develop confidence and leadership potential, supporting gender equality in line with SDG 5.
The workshop was held on Thursday, 19 February 2026, from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM in Room QS2-601. A total of 81 participants attended, including 70 students and 11 staff members.
Expected Outcomes (Impacts):
Second-year students in the Thai Language program enhanced their English communication skills and soft skills, which are essential for both everyday life and professional preparation. The training emphasised using English as an effective communication tool in academic and professional contexts, while preparing students for internships at both public and private organisations.
Importantly, female students were encouraged to express themselves more confidently, using English to present ideas, negotiate, coordinate tasks, and collaborate with others. This empowerment helped reduce communication barriers and gender-related concerns, while strengthening leadership potential and self-confidence.
Overall, the project improved both professional competencies and interpersonal skills, enabling students to perform more effectively during their internships and contribute meaningfully to organisations. The initiative also supports the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in fulfilling its mission in a sustainable, practical way.
Date of Implementation: February 19, 2026
