SDGs Project: The Wai Kru ceremony and the Krob Kru ceremony of the Art Education Program, Faculty of Education, Burapha University, Academic Year 2025

          The Wai Kru, or the ceremony of paying homage, and the Krob Kru, or the ceremony of Crowning and Investiture for students majoring in the Art program, are cultural heritage and rites that have been passed down since ancient times, which is believed to be a sacred ritual to show respect and gratitude to the teachers. This ritual will bring progress and prosperity to the disciples. Moreover, it is to build the morale of those attending the ceremony and those studying art subjects, to promote Thai art and cultural traditions. The major of Arts Education, Department of Learning Management, Faculty of Education, therefore, sees the importance of inheriting Thailand’s fine traditions and culture. In addition, the Wai Kru and Krob Kru ceremonies, along with their activities, are part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under Goal 11.4, which aims to strengthen efforts to protect and preserve the world’s cultural and natural heritage for its continued existence.

Objectives:

  1. To enable students of the Department of Arts Education, Faculty of Education, Burapha University and those who are interested in having a mental anchor and morale in studying and creating artistic works
  2. To inherit the unique culture, rituals, and beliefs of Thailand

Program Activities:

          This project is targeted at undergraduate students majoring in the Arts Education Program, lecturers, faculty staff, and those interested in participating. The Department of Arts Education has implemented the project as planned. The Wai Kru, or the ceremony of paying homage, and the Krob Kru or the ceremony of Crowning and Investiture, are comprised of four critical procedural rituals:

  1. Monastic ceremony (for prosperity according to Buddhist principles),
  2. Worship ceremony to Ganesha (the God of Art and Science)
  3. Wai Kru and Krob Kru ceremony (for receiving complete neuroscience and discipleship)
  4. Ganesh Chaturthi Ceremony

Expected Outcomes (Impacts):

  1. Students of the Department of Arts Education, Faculty of Education, Burapha University, and those who are interested in participating in the project are inspired to study and create artistic works.
  2. The preservation and continuation of Thailand’s unique and valuable culture, rituals, and beliefs, which is part of supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Goal 11.4 on strengthening efforts to protect and preserve the world’s cultural and natural heritage for the continuation of its existence.
