The Academic Talent Contest: Burapha Thai Language is organized in response to the Cabinet resolution designating July 29 of every year as National Thai Language Day, with the aim of raising public awareness about the correct use of Thai language and preserving its beauty as the national heritage.
The Department of Thai, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Burapha University, initiated this project as part of its academic and social service mission to foster the Thai language and disseminate knowledge in linguistics, literature, and folklore, particularly in the Eastern region.
In today’s society, Thailand continues to face challenges concerning equality and equity, issues deeply connected to justice and social stability. To address these, the Department of Thai organizes the Burapha Thai Language Academic Contest: Speech Contest 2025 at the high school level, under the theme “Equality and Equity: Mechanisms for Sustainable Peaceful Society.” The final round will be held on August 14, 2025, providing a platform for youth development, encouraging learning and participation in key social issues, and applying academic knowledge to community development.
The project not only nurtures quality youth with social consciousness but also supports academic services for local communities in the Eastern region. Moreover, it aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Goal 5 (Gender Equality) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
Objectives
To preserve and promote the Thai language as a cultural heritage of the nation.
To enhance knowledge of Thai language, literature, and folklore among teachers, students, and the general public.
To foster awareness of equality, equity, and sustainable peace in society.
To extend academic knowledge of faculty members to serve communities in the Eastern region.
To establish academic cooperation networks between the Department of Thai, external organizations, and local communities.
Implementation
The contest will be held in two phases:
Preliminary Round (Online): Participants (high school students, max. 2 per school) submit speech video clips on the topic “Respecting Differences, Promoting Gender Equality” by July 31, 2025. The committee will select six finalists, announced on August 7, 2025, and assign the final topic: “From Words to Action: Building Equality in Society.”
Final Round (Onsite): Held on August 14, 2025 at Phibunsongkhram Hall, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Burapha University. Contestants will prepare five speech drafts, draw lots to determine order, and deliver a 5-minute speech before the judging panel. Results and awards will be announced after the contest, with certificates presented to all participants and advisors.
