Workshop Training Programme: “A Happier Age…Keeping Up with the AI Era”

Digital technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have become increasingly important in everyday life, communication, learning, and access to various services. However, older adults may still face limitations in accessing and using digital technologies, as well as in assessing the reliability and credibility of information generated or presented through digital platforms and AI. AI can play an important role in enhancing the quality of life of older adults by supporting activities such as searching for information, summarising content, setting reminders, and facilitating communication in everyday life. At the same time, older adults may be exposed to various digital risks, including fake news, fraudulent requests for money transfers, malicious links, password theft, and violations of personal data privacy. Recognising these challenges, the Computer Center of Burapha University, in collaboration with the Senior School of Saen Suk Municipality, organised the workshop training programme entitled “A Happier Age…Keeping Up with the AI Era” on 2 July 2026. The programme was designed to promote knowledge and skills in social media use, creative and appropriate applications of AI, online safety and digital literacy, and self-protection in the digital world. The training emphasised easy-to-understand learning materials, demonstrations, hands-on practical activities, and knowledge-sharing sessions tailored to the needs and capabilities of older adults. The programme aimed to enable participants to apply the knowledge and skills gained in their daily lives with greater confidence and safety, while supporting their ability to live happily and sustainably in an increasingly digital society.

The objectives of the programme were to provide participants with fundamental knowledge of social media use, AI technologies, and the appropriate application of digital technologies in their daily lives; to raise awareness of online threats and risks associated with the use of digital technologies, including fake news, online scams, identity impersonation, personal data theft, and financial fraud; and to enable participants to apply social media and AI technologies to communication, learning, creating opportunities for supplementary income, and everyday living in a digital society with confidence, safety, and greater awareness of potential risks.

The programme successfully developed digital technology and AI knowledge and skills among 40 older adults from the Senior School of Saen Suk Municipality. Following the training, participants demonstrated increased knowledge, understanding, and awareness of the appropriate use of social media and AI technologies in their daily lives. They gained greater confidence in using digital technologies appropriately, safely, and with improved digital awareness. Participants also developed the ability to identify and assess basic online risks, such as fake news, fraudulent links, disclosure of personal information, and financial scams. Furthermore, they were able to apply the knowledge gained to everyday activities, including communication, information searching, learning, and self-care, in an appropriate and informed manner.

The programme contributed to improving the quality of life of older adults by enabling them to participate in and navigate digital society with greater confidence, safety, and independence. It helped reduce their vulnerability to online scams, fake news, data theft, and other forms of digital threats, while enabling them to make appropriate use of digital technologies and AI for communication, learning, accessing information, and self-care. In addition, the programme contributed to reducing the digital divide among older adults, promoting lifelong learning, and fostering a network for knowledge exchange on digital technology among older adults, their families, the community, and relevant organisations. Through these efforts, the programme supported older adults in developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to adapt to technological changes and maintain a safe, meaningful, and sustainable quality of life in the digital era.
