Economic Academic Service Project: Empowering Community Enterprises through the Digital Economy and Local Resource Development

Department of Economics, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Burapha University, recognizes the economic challenges faced by local workforces, including unemployment and declining income. In response, the department initiated this economic academic service project to provide integrated academic outreach that adapts to societal changes. The project aims to build community resilience by training local workers and entrepreneurs—particularly focusing on supporting female-led enterprises—through digital economy product marketing strategies and elevating local resource products to standard certifications, fostering grass-roots economic stability.

The objectives

1. To enhance essential business capabilities and technological skills (Re-skill / Up-skill / New-skill) for local community workers and entrepreneurs.

2. To raise awareness regarding gender equality and human rights by empowering local women and boosting their operational roles in community enterprises.

3. To upgrade local community resource products to meet commercial standards using digital marketing concepts.

4. To provide integrated academic services that respond effectively to changing socio-economic landscapes.

This training session was conducted for 42 participants at the Wan Yao Biological Resource Development Community Enterprise in Chanthaburi Province. The project delivered a comprehensive, hands-on workshop that integrated traditional local wisdom with modern technologies. Key activities included basic economic analysis, strategic business planning, and a dedicated digital marketing workshop where participants—extensively including local female workers—practiced setting up online stores on social media platforms, creating digital content, and practicing product photography in an engaging and collaborative learning environment.

The impacts

1. The local community successfully enhanced its socio-economic resilience. Participants gained practical business skills to commercialize local wisdom, effectively mitigating the impacts of unemployment and generating sustainable household income.

2. The training explicitly enhanced the capabilities and leadership roles of local female workers and women entrepreneurs by equipping them with vital technological and digital business tools necessary to manage and lead community initiatives.

3. By adopting modern manufacturing processes and digital packaging designs, local enterprises successfully elevated their products to standard certifications, opening new online marketplaces and boosting the local grassroots economy.
