This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with General Maintenance Engineering Co., Ltd. arises from the strategic need to advance Weigh-In-Motion/Bridge Weigh-In-Motion (WIM/BWIM) and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) technologies—critical components for building Smart Infrastructure.

The significance of this initiative lies in bridging the gap between academic research and real-world application. By deploying these innovations, the project aims to enhance public safety, drastically reduce maintenance costs, and actively support the nation’s infrastructure development. Furthermore, it drives the creation of domestic hardware and software towards “Made in Thailand” (MIT) certification, ultimately boosting the economic value and competitive edge of Thai industries on a broader scale.

Project Coordinator: Asst. Prof. Dr Nayot Kurukitkoson (Dean of the Faculty of Engineering)

Objectives:

  • To promote research and development in WIM/BWIM and SHM technologies, which are essential for real-time load monitoring, infrastructure condition assessment, and structural health surveillance.
  • To enhance structural safety, minimise unforeseen maintenance costs, and actively support the modernisation of national Smart Infrastructure.
  • To develop domestic hardware and software solutions aimed at achieving the “Made in Thailand” (MIT) product certification.

Program Activities:

The Faculty of Engineering at Burapha University hosted the Academic MOU Signing Ceremony with General Maintenance Engineering Co., Ltd. on May 20, 2026, at the EEC Automation Park. Asst officially signed the agreement. Prof. Dr Nayot Kurukitkoson, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Mr Wisarat Eiampracha, Managing Director of General Maintenance Engineering Co., Ltd., with executives and representatives from both parties serving as witnesses.

This partnership is dedicated to advancing WIM/BWIM and SHM technologies, which are vital for real-time load detection and the continuous health monitoring of bridges, buildings, and other critical infrastructure.

Through this collaboration, both parties will engage in joint R&D, technology transfer, academic seminars, and the capacity building of students and personnel. These efforts are strategically designed to meet industrial demands and align seamlessly with the “Thailand 4.0” national development policy. Additionally, the initiative focuses on engineering local hardware and software to achieve MIT certification, as well as developing robust platforms that integrate AI, IoT, and SCADA monitoring systems to optimise data management and future engineering decision-making.

Expected Outcomes (Impacts):

  • Concrete Industry-Academia Synergy: Established a solid collaborative R&D framework for WIM/BWIM and SHM technologies, establishing a strong foundation for the real-time monitoring of the nation’s infrastructure.
