This operational workshop on preparing a Self-Study Report (SSR) for ABET accreditation stems from a strong commitment to elevating the Faculty of Engineering’s educational quality to meet global standards. The core significance of this initiative is to prepare our engineering programs for ABET accreditation—a globally recognised benchmark of educational excellence.
Achieving this accreditation will significantly enhance the credibility of our graduates in the global labour market, foster the continuous modernisation of our curriculum, and build a strong, sustainable competitive advantage on the international stage.
Project Coordinator: Faculty of Engineering, Burapha University
Objectives:
- To enhance knowledge, deepen understanding, and develop practical skills in writing a Self-Study Report (SSR), which is a crucial component of ABET accreditation readiness.
- To systematically prepare the engineering degree programs for the rigorous international accreditation process.
- To elevate the overall quality of engineering education, ensuring it aligns perfectly with world-class international standards.
Program Activities:
The Faculty of Engineering at Burapha University hosted the workshop “Writing a Self-Study Report (SSR) for ABET International Accreditation” from June 10–11, 2026, at Room M804, 8th Floor, Kasem Chatikavanij Building. The event saw active participation from faculty executives, department heads, and faculty members, particularly from the Departments of Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering.
The workshop was honoured by two distinguished experts: Professor Dr Methi Wecharatana and Assoc. Prof. Dr Weera Chankong possesses extensive direct experience in engineering curriculum development and in driving ABET accreditation processes across multiple institutions.
During the sessions, Prof. Dr Methi Wecharatana shared comprehensive insights into the core principles, concepts, and structure of an effective SSR, providing systematic case studies that aligned with ABET guidelines—meanwhile, Assoc. Prof. Dr Weera Chankong provided in-depth guidance on data collection, analysis of Student Outcomes, and techniques for tailoring the report to meet the strict requirements and expectations of ABET evaluators.
Furthermore, participants engaged in dynamic exchanges of ideas, hands-on SSR writing practice, and close-knit consultation with the experts. This ensured that attendees could effectively apply the knowledge gained to refine their curricula and confidently prepare their programs for the global accreditation process.
Expected Outcomes (Impacts):
- In-depth Faculty Expertise: Faculty members gained profound knowledge in crafting SSRs according to ABET standards. This encompasses a deep understanding of core structures, principles, and strategic techniques necessary to meet evaluators’ expectations.
- Global Standard Readiness: Our engineering degree programs are now being systematically upgraded and thoroughly prepared for ABET accreditation, effectively raising the faculty’s educational management and teaching to a world-class level.
- Empowering Future Graduates: Graduates from ABET-accredited programs will possess exceptional potential and global credibility, fully equipping them to compete with peers from top-tier universities worldwide in the international job market.
- Enhancing Institutional Reputation: This initiative actively drives the international competitiveness of Thai educational institutions, proudly elevating Burapha University’s reputation and standing on the global stage.
