Sustainable Japan–Thailand Academic Collaboration Initiative 2026

Sustainable Japan–Thailand Academic Collaboration Initiative 2026

This initiative was developed to deepen collaboration between Burapha University, its partner universities in Japan, and industry stakeholders. It builds on existing cooperation in student exchange and Work-Integrated Education (CWIE), with a focus on aligning academic practices with real workplace contexts. Another key aspect of the project is the integration of Gender Equality (SDG 5). By examining policies and workplace practices in Japan, the project seeks to bring practical insights into curriculum development, student preparation, and internship management, particularly in relation to inclusion, safety, and equal opportunities.

The aims:

1.To expand collaboration between Burapha University and Japanese academic and industry partners

2.To further develop the CWIE and internship framework

3.To follow up on Thai students participating in exchange and internship programs

4.To gather practical input from partner companies on workplace practices

5.To examine approaches to Gender Equality in Japanese organizations

6.To identify possibilities for developing short courses in Business Japanese

The project took place during 11–16 November 2025 through a series of visits to partner universities and companies in Japan. Activities included observing internship placements, meeting with company representatives, and discussing student supervision and workplace expectations. The team also collected information on working environments and management practices, with particular attention to how Gender Equality is addressed in professional settings. In addition, discussions were held on future collaboration, including the development of Business Japanese training tailored to the service sector.

The project was successfully implemented through visits to partner universities and companies in Japan. The initiative strengthened academic and industry collaboration, improved the CWIE internship system, and provided valuable feedback on Thai student performance and internship management. The project also gathered best practices in student supervision and workplace management, gained insights into Gender Equality policies in Japanese companies, and established guidelines for developing Business Japanese training programs for hospitality and service industries. Overall, the project strengthened the academic–industry–student collaboration framework for sustainable international cooperative education.
