Thai Huso Smart Research 2025

Thai Huso Smart Research 2025

The Department of Thai, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Burapha University, as an academic unit with a role in advancing cultural capital, linguistics, and communication, recognises the importance of contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14: Life Below Water) through the perspectives of the humanities and social sciences. In this regard, the department initiated the Thai Huso Smart Research Project to strengthen the capacity of faculty members to understand and apply the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in teaching, research, and area-based academic services, particularly in Thailand’s eastern coastal areas.

The project aims to empower faculty to design and implement Area-Based Academic Service projects by leveraging expertise in language and culture to create Creating Shared Value (CSV) in both economic and social dimensions. This is achieved through the integration of technology, innovation, and artificial intelligence (AI) to support sustainable development in the eastern region.

Thus, the Thai Huso Smart Research Project serves as a vital mechanism to enhance the role of the humanities and social sciences in driving sustainable development. It also provides a model for developing curricula and projects that can effectively translate academic knowledge into systemic change at the local level.

Objectives

  1. To develop the competencies of faculty members in the Department of Thai in understanding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources.

  2. To encourage faculty to design and develop area-based academic service projects that integrate humanities knowledge with the conservation of marine and coastal resources in the eastern region.

  3. To strengthen faculty capacity in applying technology, innovation, and artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching, research, and academic services for sustainable development.

Implementation

The project featured a special lecture on “Developing Faculty Competencies for Research and Area-Based Academic Services through Knowledge and Technological Innovation for Sustainable Development” delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supet Jirakajornkul, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Thammasat University. In addition, a workshop and knowledge-sharing session was conducted to inspire participants in designing area-based academic service projects that incorporate innovation and technology.

Impact

  1. Participants enhanced their understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 14, concerning the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources.

  2. Participants strengthened their capacity to apply technology, innovation, and AI in teaching, research, and academic services for sustainable development.

  3. Faculty members successfully developed conceptual frameworks for area-based academic service projects that integrate humanities knowledge with the conservation of marine and coastal resources in the eastern region.
