Academic Service Project: “United for Mediation 2026”

Academic Service Project: “United for Mediation 2026”

Dispute mediation is a pivotal legal mechanism for facilitating equitable access to justice, particularly regarding labor disputes that directly impact basic human dignity, worker rights, and workplace relations. Organized by the Faculty of Law, Burapha University—a primary higher education institution in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC)—in strategic collaboration with the Region 2 Labour Court (Chonburi), the “United for Mediation 2026” project integrates academic legal knowledge with professional judicial practice. By delivering expert lectures and mock mediation simulations for students, university personnel, and the public, the initiative advances institutional alignment with EdPEx, AUN-QA Version 4, and THE Impact Rankings for SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). This joint effort reinforces Burapha University’s role as a neutral academic platform that promotes the rule of law, peaceful conflict resolution, and public trust in the judicial system.

The aims

1.To disseminate actionable knowledge on labor dispute mediation to students, university personnel, and the general public.

2.To foster public understanding of labor justice, peaceful conflict resolution, and the protection of labor rights.

3.To enhance experiential learning and legal competencies (analytical, negotiation, and ethical skills) among law students via realistic mock mediation simulations.

4.To establish a sustainable academic-judicial partnership between the Faculty of Law, Burapha University, and the Region 2 Labour Court (Chonburi).

5.To support university quality assurance standards (EdPEx and AUN-QA) and advance SDG 16 and SDG 8 indicators through academic outreach and institutional collaboration.

Held at Room POL SCI-402, Faculty of Political Science Building, Burapha University, on June 12, 2026 (09:30 AM – 12:00 PM), the project combines academic lectures with practical simulation workshops. The event begins with an expert lecture on labor legal frameworks and mediation procedures, co-delivered by Faculty of Law academics and legal professionals from the Region 2 Labour Court (Chonburi). This is followed by a live mock labor mediation simulation where law students enact realistic workplace conflict scenarios to practice legal reasoning, negotiation, and peaceful dispute resolution techniques. The session concludes with an interactive Q&A discussion, allowing students, staff, and public participants to gain direct insights into judicial procedures and conflict resolution.

The impacts

1.Impact on Public & Society: Enhanced public literacy in labor law and peaceful dispute resolution, enabling proactive prevention and mitigation of workplace conflicts while strengthening public confidence in judicial mechanisms.

2.Impact on Students: Advanced experiential learning for law students, fostering core legal qualifications, critical thinking, negotiation tactics, and professional ethics needed for future legal practice.

3.Impact on University Quality & Global Ranking: Direct contribution to THE Impact Rankings by executing SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) initiatives within the EEC region.

4.Sustainable Partnership: Institutionalized collaborative network between Burapha University and the Region 2 Labour Court (Chonburi), laying a solid foundation for future academic services, legal training, and professional development.
