Incoming engineering students often arrive with varying levels of foundational scientific knowledge. This preparatory program is designed to bridge those academic gaps and instil confidence as students transition into higher education. By offering this academic support before the semester begins, the faculty ensures that students can seamlessly adapt to the rigours of university-level learning. This initiative aligns perfectly with our faculty’s vision of cultivating high-calibre engineers equipped to meet the evolving demands of the industrial sector in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).

Objectives:
- To strengthen the academic foundations in mathematics, chemistry, and physics for incoming students before the start of the academic year.
- To bridge existing knowledge gaps, thereby boosting students’ confidence as they embark on their university journey.
- To facilitate a smooth transition into the Faculty of Engineering’s academic and instructional environment.
- To foster an awareness of the pivotal role engineers play in national development and highlight the myriad career opportunities available within the EEC.
Program Activities:
The preparatory program for mathematics, chemistry, and physics was held from June 15 to 26, 2026, with full participation from the first-year cohort. The event commenced with a welcoming address and inspiring remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, who emphasised the vital role of engineers in driving national progress. The address also highlighted the importance of lifelong learning, the cultivation of future-ready skills, and the exceptional career prospects awaiting graduates in the EEC.
Expected Outcomes (Impacts):
Through this program, incoming engineering students acquired the essential foundational knowledge in mathematics, chemistry, and physics required to succeed in their rigorous curriculum. This robust academic groundwork not only alleviates anxieties related to diverse high school backgrounds but also significantly boosts students’ confidence and readiness for university life. Crucially, the program proactively addresses and helps reduce the failure and retake rates in foundational courses—a common challenge among first-year students.
Furthermore, students gained a profound appreciation for the engineering profession’s impact on national development, particularly within the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), a region with a high demand for top-tier engineering talent. The initiative inspired students and provided them with a clear roadmap for personal and professional development, ensuring they are well-equipped to meet industry demands and thrive in a rapidly changing world. Ultimately, this program empowers our future graduates to maximise their potential and make meaningful, lasting contributions to society and the nation.
