Health Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities through Thai Traditional Medicine Project

The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Burapha University, was invited to serve as trainers for a workshop under the Health Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities through the Thai Traditional Medicine Project for the fiscal year 2026. The activity was organised by the Independent Living Center for Persons with Disabilities under the Chao Phraya Surasak City Municipality. The project is significant because it applies academic knowledge of Thai traditional medicine to improve community health, promote proper herbal use, and support sustainable development of quality of life for persons with disabilities and local people.

Objectives:

The objectives of the project were to transfer knowledge on health care through Thai traditional medicine, promote the correct and appropriate use of herbs in daily life, develop practical health care skills, and support participants in applying herbal knowledge for self-care and possible occupational development.

Program Activities:

The project was conducted as a lecture and hands-on workshop for 90 participants. Faculty members provided knowledge about herbs and Thai traditional medicine. Practical sessions included demonstrations and training on making herbal products such as herbal balm and citronella mosquito repellent spray. Third-year students from the Applied Thai Traditional Medicine Program also joined as assistant trainers during the practical activities.

Expected Outcomes (Impacts):

The project helped participants gain useful knowledge and practical skills in Thai traditional medicine and herbal product preparation. It promoted proper self-care, supported health rehabilitation for persons with disabilities, and created opportunities for applying herbal knowledge in daily life and occupations. The activity also strengthened the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences’ role in applying academic knowledge for community benefit and sustainable social development.
