Academic Seminar on Criminology and the Administration of Criminal Justice

Academic Seminar on Criminology and the Administration of Criminal Justice

Criminology and the administration of criminal justice are interdisciplinary fields that examine criminological theories, concepts of punishment and prevention, and the development of criminal justice systems. In response to contemporary challenges in Thailand, particularly issues of inequality within the justice system, the Department of Law organised an academic seminar titled “Justice Reform and Inequality: Is Prison Only for the Poor?” The seminar aims to enhance academic understanding through expert lectures and discussions, promote critical analysis, and support sustainable development by strengthening graduate students’ and interested participants’ knowledge of criminal justice.

Project Coordinator: Assoc. Prof. Dr.Ratchanee Tangon

Objectives:

  1. To enhance graduate students’ knowledge and understanding of criminological principles, concepts, and theories.
  2. To strengthen academic competence in criminology and the administration of criminal justice.
  3. To develop students’ academic potential in alignment with the Master of Laws curriculum and quality assurance standards.

Program Activities:

The project was organised as an online lecture via Microsoft Teams on 24 May 2026, from 08:45 to 12:00. The program aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and understanding, enabling them to integrate both theoretical and practical insights provided by the speakers and to apply such knowledge as a foundation for further academic development in the future. Distinguished academic experts were invited to deliver in-depth analyses of relevant provisions of the Thai Penal Code and selected Supreme Court judgments. The program also included interactive question-and-answer sessions and case studies to promote practical learning and the critical application of legal principles.

Expected Outcomes (Impacts):

The project enhances participants’ knowledge and critical understanding of criminology, justice reform, and inequality in the criminal justice system. It strengthens analytical skills and academic perspectives among graduate students, contributes to professional capacity building, and promotes awareness of justice-related issues relevant to contemporary Thai society. The seminar also supports lifelong learning and the dissemination of legal knowledge on an academic, neutral platform.
