Agile 101 Workshop: Shifting Mindsets Toward Agile Software Development at the Computer Center

Agile 101 Workshop: Shifting Mindsets Toward Agile Software Development at the Computer Center

As Burapha University advances toward becoming a digital university, the Division of Information Systems Development and Innovation within the Computer Center plays a critical dual role: maintaining the stability of existing systems while developing new solutions to meet increasingly complex, rapidly changing user demands across the university.

However, frequent changes in user requirements and inconsistent internal development processes have posed significant challenges. Although Agile has been introduced, misunderstandings of its principles and practices have limited its effectiveness, reducing flexibility and causing occasional operational conflicts.

This workshop was therefore initiated as the “first button” in reshaping the organisational mindset—establishing a systematic, practical, and tailored shared understanding of Agile principles, frameworks, and best practices, tailored to the university context.

Project Coordinator: Mr. Chakkrit Manmuan

Objectives:

  1. To build accurate knowledge and understanding of Agile principles, including the Agile Manifesto and its core values.
  2. To introduce key Agile methodologies and techniques such as Scrum Framework, Kanban, Sprint Planning, User Stories, and Definition of Done.
  3. To provide practical guidance for applying Agile approaches to the university’s information system development context and encourage experience-sharing among participants.

Program Activities:

The workshop combined lectures, case studies, and interactive discussions. It was led by Mr Worawit Weerapun, Deputy Director for Information Systems Development and Innovation, who shared practical insights into Agile implementation.
The program focused on cultivating an Agile mindset, clarifying essential frameworks and techniques, and connecting Agile concepts directly to the operational context of the Computer Center. Participants were encouraged to reflect, discuss, and explore how Agile practices could be meaningfully applied to their real-world responsibilities.

Expected Outcomes (Impacts):

Personnel Development

  • Fostered a shared Agile mindset and stronger alignment among development teams, reducing misunderstandings and operational conflicts.
  • Enhanced staff capabilities in adaptive, process-oriented work approaches responsive to changing user needs.
  • Promoted a culture of lifelong learning and internal knowledge exchange.

Process and Systems Improvement

  • Strengthened clarity, structure, and flexibility in information system development processes.
  • Reduced risks associated with misaligned workflows while improving planning, monitoring, and delivery efficiency.
  • Elevated software development quality in line with modern project management standards.

Organizational Advancement

  • Supported the Computer Center and the university’s transition toward a sustainable, agile digital organisation.
  • Increased confidence among university units in the quality, speed, and efficiency of IT system development.
  • Contributed to the university’s strategic quality development goals and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in human resource development, operational efficiency, and innovation promotion.
