Faculty of Engineering Open House at Burapha University for Navamindradhiraj Naval Maintenance School

Faculty of Engineering Open House at Burapha University for Navamindradhiraj Naval Maintenance School

The Faculty of Engineering, Burapha University, plays a significant role in transferring knowledge in engineering, technology, and innovation to society, particularly in preparing youth and teachers to adapt to rapid technological changes in the future. This project was organized in the form of an Open House activity to create a learning space for secondary school students, allowing them to gain hands-on experience and participate in practical engineering activities through various learning stations provided by the Faculty. These experiential learning opportunities help enhance students’ understanding of engineering principles, promote learning through direct experience, and inspire interest in pursuing further education in engineering disciplines. In addition, the project places strong emphasis on teacher capacity development through knowledge exchange in digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI), which are essential tools for modern teaching and learning. Collaboration with the industrial sector helps bridge academic knowledge with real-world applications, reflecting the University’s role as a lifelong learning hub and a center for sustainable human resource development. The project aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Quality Education (SDG 4), Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).

The objectives of the project were to provide secondary school students from Navamindradhiraj Naval Maintenance School with opportunities to participate in the Faculty of Engineering Open House and to learn through hands-on engineering practices across various activity stations; to inspire students and enhance their understanding of the role of engineering, technology, and innovation in industrial and societal development; to support the capacity building of teachers in digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) for application in teaching and learning processes; to promote experiential learning and the integration of academic knowledge with real-world applications; and to strengthen collaboration among the Faculty of Engineering, Burapha University, schools, and industry partners in sustainable human resource development.

The Faculty of Engineering, Burapha University, organised an Open House event welcoming students and teachers from Navamindradhiraj Naval Maintenance School. The program began with a welcome session and an overview of engineering education at the Faculty, followed by the division of students into hands-on activity stations. These included the Automation Systems and Industrial Technology Station at the EEC Automation Park, the Materials Science Laboratory, and the Laser Cutter Activity Station, where students were able to engage in practical exercises and real-world engineering applications. In parallel, teachers participated in knowledge-sharing sessions on artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance their capacity for modern teaching and learning. All activities were conducted in close collaboration with industry partners and supported by expert faculty members and professionals.

The project significantly enhanced access to quality engineering education for secondary school students through hands-on learning experiences that fostered understanding, foundational skills, and self-discovery of interests, ultimately supporting informed decisions to pursue engineering studies in the future. At the same time, participating teachers strengthened their knowledge of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, enabling them to apply these competencies in classroom instruction in response to global technological change. Furthermore, the project contributed to the development of collaborative networks among the University, schools, and industry partners, reinforcing the role of the Faculty of Engineering, Burapha University, in sustainable human resource development, lifelong learning, and the advancement of society in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
