Academic Service Project for External Organizations: Physical Fitness Testing Activity for Vajiravudh College Students

Academic Service Project for External Organizations: Physical Fitness Testing Activity for Vajiravudh College Students

The Faculty of Sports Science at Burapha University has established a key mission to provide academic services to society related to sports science knowledge and expertise. This aims to promote and develop sports and exercise for health, enhancing athletic potential and improving quality of life for the general population. The faculty offers diverse academic services including knowledge enhancement in sports science, sports nutrition, sports psychology, training program design, exercise leadership, physical fitness testing, and sports competitions. Vajiravudh College requested the faculty’s assistance in conducting physical fitness testing for their students and personnel. In response, the Faculty of Sports Science organized this academic service project to provide comprehensive physical fitness testing services to Vajiravudh College students, promote exercise for good health, and provide professional experience in sports science for the faculty’s students. This project aligns with the university’s mission of serving as an academic resource for external communities while simultaneously developing students’ professional competencies through practical application of their knowledge in real-world settings.

The project aimed to achieve two primary objectives. First, to provide academic services to external organizations by conducting physical fitness testing for students at Vajiravudh College, thereby extending the university’s expertise to the broader community. This service component directly addresses the health and wellness needs of school-aged populations through systematic physical assessment. Second, to provide professional training experience in sports science for the faculty’s students by involving them in the delivery of academic services and physical fitness testing. This hands-on approach allows university students to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings, develop professional competencies, and gain valuable experience in community engagement and health assessment protocols. Through these objectives, the project creates mutual benefits for both the external organization receiving services and the university students gaining professional development opportunities.

The project was implemented through a systematic four-phase approach following the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle. In the planning phase, meetings were held with stakeholders to develop the implementation plan, incorporating feedback from previous experiences. During the implementation phase, the project proposal was prepared and submitted for approval, committee appointments were made, informational meetings were conducted with involved parties to clarify operational details and assign responsibilities, coordination with relevant parties was established, and preparations were completed for various aspects of the project. The physical fitness testing activities were conducted over two rounds at Vajiravudh College. Round 1 took place on December 15-17, 2025, from 3:30-5:30 PM, testing students from Nanthautthayan, Saranrom, and Sanamchan houses. Round 2 was held on December 22-23 and 25, 2025, from 3:30-5:30 PM, testing students from Commander and Dusit houses, Chitralada and Phayathai houses, and Chongrakkhapdee and Saksrimongkon houses respectively. Each session involved 2 faculty personnel and 18 students conducting comprehensive fitness assessments for a total of 757 school students. Transportation was arranged between Burapha University and Vajiravudh College for each testing day.

The project generated significant positive impacts across multiple dimensions. For external service delivery, the Faculty of Sports Science successfully provided academic services to Vajiravudh College, conducting comprehensive physical fitness testing for 757 students, thereby fulfilling the university’s community engagement mission and contributing to health promotion in the secondary education sector. For student development, 18 sports science students gained valuable professional experience in delivering academic services and conducting physical fitness testing in authentic settings, enhancing their practical competencies and professional readiness. The project demonstrated high effectiveness with over 80% of the target population participating in fitness testing, and all participants received their assessment results within the designated timeframe. This successful implementation strengthened the collaboration between Burapha University and Vajiravudh College, laying a foundation for continued partnership. The project also promoted health awareness and exercise habits among school students through systematic physical assessment and feedback. Additionally, it validated the university’s operational model for community-engaged learning, demonstrating how academic service projects can simultaneously serve external communities while providing authentic learning experiences for university students in the field of sports science.
