Burapha University Language Institute recognises the growing environmental problems caused by excessive consumption and rising waste. The Institute therefore seeks to raise environmental awareness and encourage participants to reduce waste by reusing and recycling discarded or used materials in creative and meaningful ways. The Junk Journal Competition, under the theme My Daily Green Habits, brings environmental awareness, creativity, and English-language development together in a single activity. Participants create and decorate a journal using recyclable materials or everyday objects no longer in use, and write an English essay on their own daily environmental practices. In doing so, they consider how their everyday choices affect the environment while gaining genuine practice in English writing and communication.
Project Coordinator: Dr. Pichaya Waiprib
Objectives:
- To encourage environmentally responsible habits and raise environmental awareness
- To develop participants’ English writing skills through communication about everyday experiences and green habits.
Program Activities:
The organising committee planned the competition and developed rules and assessment criteria to guide participation and judging. Entries then opened to Burapha University students and the wider public, with submissions accepted from 6 July to 5 August 2026. During this period, participants created a junk journal entitled My Daily Green Habits using discarded or recycled materials. They wrote an English entry of about 150 words describing the environmentally responsible practices they follow in everyday life. Once the submission period closed, a panel from Burapha University Language Institute evaluated the entries. Judges considered both the creativity of the journals and the quality of the English writing. The results were announced on 11 August, and prizes and certificates were presented on 17 August 2026. Award recipients also produced a short video explaining the ideas behind their journal, their inspiration, and the green practices they wrote about.
Expected Outcomes (Impacts):
The project attracted many participants, reflecting strong interest in creative environmental activities. It encouraged them to recognise how everyday choices affect the environment and to reduce waste by creatively reusing discarded and recyclable materials. The project encouraged participants to reflect on their personal green habits and connect environmental awareness with their everyday lives. At the same time, it provided an opportunity to practise written communication in English. In addition, publicity posts about the competition, along with short video clips in which the winners explained their own work, were shared on the social media platforms of Burapha University Language Institute. This extended environmental messages to the university community and the wider public. Overall, the project promoted environmental awareness, creativity, English-language development, and sustainable habits.
Date of Implementation: 6 July–17 August 2026
